Reiki healing
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient, practical technique for deep relaxation and hands-on healing. This technique enhances the body’s own innate ability to heal itself on all levels. It helps restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and spirit.
The energy involved in Reiki healing is the universal energy that surrounds all life. Reiki is used throughout the world by people of all creeds and belief systems. Reiki can benefit everyone.
The benefits of Reiki
Reiki can treat most illnesses and conditions under the majority of circumstances as it is non-invasive. It is safe to use on anyone of any age, including babies, children and the elderly.
Specific problems that Reiki can treat include heart conditions, high blood pressure, ulcers, migraines and neck and back pain, as well as more general symptoms, such as tiredness and depression. It can aid the healing of injuries and broken bones and it can help rebalance hormones and lessen the discomforts of pregnancy.
Reiki can be useful in the treatment of predominantly mental conditions, such as anxiety, phobias and insomnia. Also, it can help emotional conditions such as grief, low self-esteem and loneliness. Reiki can help us to find clarity of direction in terms of our spirituality, our vocation in life and our relationships.
How Reiki works
We all have an energy field (aura) surrounding our physical body. As we go through life we place demands on this energy field. During a Reiki treatment this energy field re-energises. Reiki restores the natural balance of the body, providing deep relaxation and bringing a sense of peace and well-being.
It is called a universal life energy because it draws upon the healing energy of the Universe rather than the energy of the practitioner.
The energy is not directed by the conscious mind of the practitioner but by the subconscious desires of the client.
Reiki is not intrusive since the energy will pass through clothing, bandages, plaster casts or braces.
Reiki treatment
During the Reiki treatment the client remains fully clothed laying on the comfortable Reiki table and covered with a light blanket. I will follow a sequence of hand positions over certain parts of the body, starting at the head. It is not necessary to feel anything during the treatment in order for the Reiki energy to work. Generally clients feel a deep sense of relaxation, heat, tingling, coolness and energy flowing. Usually, a Reiki treatment lasts one hour.
Someone who has a chronic condition is usually advised to have a weekly Reiki treatment for five or seven weeks for the energy to build up in the system. People with acute conditions may notice lasting improvements after two treatments. No two cases are the same, as Reiki works on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.
